Academic Journals and Periodicals
We subscribe to a mixture of print and online academic journals, as well as other periodicals, that you are likely to find useful. Below you will find some essential titles to get you started but you can use Library Search to find articles by subject/keyword, search for a journal by title via our eJournals search or library catalogue, check out individual databases by going to the databases tab, and find open access content available online too.

You should always exhaust the options available to in Brunel's collection before expanding your research to other online sources. There is a lot of Open Access material available, as well as research material published through university repositories, you can also use Google Scholar find content. Here are some useful sites:

Advanced Search Tips
Reduce the amount of time it takes to conduct your research and find more relevant content by using search operators and other useful techniques highlighted below. Look for Advanced Search options to apply these easily and find out more on our finding resources page.

" " | Searches for complete phrases, such as "Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy" "Child Development" "Cognitive Development" "Art Therapy" |
AND | Only shows results where all keywords entered are present (refines your search) eg. Art AND Psychotherapy or Gender* AND Psychotherapy AND Art |
OR | Used to expand your search to specified options, useful when searching for similar terms. eg. Art AND Psychotherapy OR Therapy OR Counselling |
NOT | Excludes a keyword from your search e.g. Psychotherapy NOT Art or |
* (Wildcard) | Can be used for truncation - capturing different word endings, e.g. Psych* (which will return results for Psychology, Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, Psychic, Psychoanalytic - anything starting with Psych!). Can also be used to capture spelling variations or if you don't know how to spell a word. e.g. Behavio* "Sigmund F*" |
