The Visual Arts Data Service (VADS)It includes the Design Council Slide Collection and
comprises over 22,000 images, mainly of British design from the late 1940s to 1990. It was begun shortly after the Second World War by the Council of Industrial Design (CoID), an official design promotion organisation that was set up by the British government in 1944. The CoID was renamed the Design Council in 1972, and today it continues to fulfil the role of the UK's national strategic body for design.
