Academic Liaison Librarians

All Academic Departments at Brunel have a named Academic Liaison Librarian or ALL. This service is provided via the Library Academic Services Team, which offers tailored support to students and staff

For students we provide the LibSmart service and:

  • Are your point of contact between your department and the Library. Got a question? Please ask us
  • Deliver tailored Library inductions to help you get started, and indepth workshops, seminars and lectures as you progress through your academic career
  • Provide 1-2-1 expert help via email, drop ins and booked appointments
  • Advise you on finding quality information for your essays, projects, assignments and dissertations
  • Advise you on making the most of the Library's print and online resources to support your studies
  • Advise you on citing, referencing and avoiding plagiarism

For academic staff we:

  • Act as a contact between you and the Library. Got a question? Please ask us!
  • Attend Boards of Study and SECs
  • Deliver tailored library inductions and workshops for your students in your modules (look at the LibSmart programme for inspiration)
  • Provide individual research sessions for you
  • Advise you on finding and making the most of the Library's print and online resources to support your research and teaching
  • Liaise with you to provide appropriate library resources via your reading lists
  • Support your use of Talis Aspire, the online reading list system
  • Can help with bids for research funds and grants, principally by costing any research resources you would need

The Academic Liaison Librarians provide the LibSmart service. This includes:

  • The LibSmart drop in point, where you can ask questions about how to find and use Library information sources, referencing and using databases. During term-time this service will operate in person from 1-4pm Monday to Friday. You can drop by the LibSmart point on the first floor of the Library to speak to a librarian. 
  • A programme of free workshops, including searching for resources, citing and referencing, and using social media for learning, research and reputation management. . 
  • Booked appointments with your Department's ALL
  • Online subject guides

Your ALL will publicise details of their availability via the online guide for your subject and via twitter. Check out your subject guide to see contact details for your librarian.
