What is Datastream and how do I use it?

Datastream is a comprehensive database of company, financial and economic data from around the world. It contains worldwide equity coverage direct from the stock markets, comprehensive market indices, economics data direct from national government sources as well as the OECD and IMF, fixed income securities and associated indices, commodities, and derivatives data. Information from Datastream is used widely by the international commercial sector.

The Thomson Reuters Training Network has a series of online training videos which show how to use the various features within Datastream. To register use your University email address.

Datastream training

For further training, Thomson Reuters regularly schedule online training sessions for Datastream which students and staff can sign up for. To find out what is taking place and when, have a look through the list of training modules.

Thomson Reuters Certification

Thomson Reuters offers certification to students using their products - Datastream and Thomson One.  Choose the product you want to certify in and work through the training material. When you are done request an exam token and then take the test.

Booking a Datastream terminal

Access to Datastream is only available on campus.

There are currently two Datastream terminals at Brunel University Library, which are located in the Financial Resources Suite on the first floor of the Library.

Each slot is one hour long, and you can book up to a week in advance. They are available to book during the following hours in term-time:

  • Monday - Friday: 9am – 10pm
  • Saturday: 9am – 10pm
  • Sunday: 9am – 10pm

NB: Please ensure you book a terminal to guarantee your session. All bookings will have priority.
